The Galloway Township Police Department employs the use of highly-trained canines that are assigned specifically to an individual officer. Canines have unique capabilities intended to both support and complement the department in accomplishing its overall mission. Our department's canines provide a variety of services including, but not limited to, suspect tracking/apprehension, article searches, and narcotics detection. Each canine and their respective handlers undergo extensive and strenuous training; they attend a six-month basic training academy and often continue forward into specialized training. All of our canines and their handlers are certified in patrol services and specialized in narcotics detection. They also attend monthly in-service training and compete at both state and national competitions in order to maintain their high degree of effectiveness. The Canine Unit is under the administrative command of Lt. Ryan Goehringer and currently has two active canine officers.
